Hello, my name is Dr. Nicholas Chiu. Most people would be surprised to hear that I was afraid to go to the dentist when I was young and actively avoided it.  On top of that, I also ate a lot of candy and disregarded brushing and flossing for most days. As a result, when I was a teenager, I had so much pain from cavities. Once I finally got over my fear and got all my fillings done, I vowed from then on to take my oral hygiene seriously and started brushing regularly and moderating my diet. Then, my life transformed once more when I got braces, correcting my years of embarrassment from showing my teeth to actively smiling whenever I get the chance. Through these experiences, I decided, since high school, that I wanted to pursue a career in a field I was passionate about, Dentistry!

For me, dentistry is a way for me to give back the same way I was treated. I understand how scary going to the dentist can be or the shame one might feel after neglecting it for so long, so I aim to create a safe space free of judgement, especially because I have been in that situation before. What I also love about dentistry is being able to incorporate my art form into a service; rebuilding tooth structure from nothing or renewing a smile that was once lost. I want to be as up to date as possible, so I attend conventions, continuing-education courses, and actively discuss cases with colleagues to get best outlooks and ideas to serve my patients.

Beyond my passion in Dentistry, I also love to live life beyond teeth. When I am not drilling on a canine, I am playing with my Shiba Inu, Kurama! I also love watching tv shows and movies, staying up to date with what Marvel, Disney, and the many streaming services have to offer. I also love to stay active by running half marathons and playing pickleball. On Sundays and additional days during the week, I spend time with my Church community building my spiritual life and appreciating the blessing He has given me.
